Exploring the history of St Luke’s, London

Welcome!

St Luke’s Community History Group is a friendly, informal group dedicated to exploring the secrets and stories of St Luke’s, an area in the City of London.

Latest news:
Our film

We are so proud that the film we made about St Lukes and its residents, After The War: Finsbury Story, was screened on UK television! Click here for more information about the film.

The film was produced with kind support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

“You need to know about where you live. This place is magic. There is so much history here and we love to share it.”

Local history…

Did you know that Mozart had his tonsils out at Barts? That Whitecross St. Market is the oldest in the country? That the Krays were local lads? Or that some of our members once ran a cocoa canteen in the bomb shelter under King Square to keep up the morale of local families sheltering there during the Blitz?

Our area is home to amazing historical landmarks including Wesley’s Chapel, Bunhill Fields, Charterhouse, Sadlers Wells Theatre and The New River. However, it is the people of this corner of London, living through huge changes to the local landscape, who are the main focus of the projects carried out by St Luke’s Community History Group.

Our group meets fortnightly and takes on local history research projects to share with the community.

Come and join us - tell us your story.

“I can’t believe I’ve lived here all of my life without going into museums or historic places I love to go on visits now!”

  • John, 76.
